Oliver Bond at the Ticket to the Moon Factory
5/20/2015
Hammockology, Irish Hammock Company

Cork based Hammockology Ltd is Irelands only dedicated Hammock Company, and official distributor of the Ticket to the Moon hammocks for Ireland and United Kingdom.

An Irish Distributor visiting
INTERVIEW WITH OLIVER BOND  DURING HIS VISIT AT BALI HEADQUARTERS

Hi Oliver, you are a big hammock lover, and you have been in the business for a long time.
There was a particular reason for you to decide to make your living from hammocks?

I always considered myself about average size but yes I have been in the hammock business for a long time which makes me quite old.  I originally started selling hammocks because I thought that the TTTM hammocks were so cool and I wanted to be involved. After a while when I started thinking about my career I realized that if you have to go to work every day it's a good idea to have a hammock nearby.

Oliver discussing on the new look of the hammock patented pouch with Pak Ngurah the Factory Manager

For how long have you been sharing the hammock vibe in Ireland and U.K?
And thanks to your experience, do you consider those two islands a good destination to go hammocking? Where would it be the best for you to put a hammock up in Ireland and in UK?

I sold my first Ticket to the moon hammock in Ireland in 1999 and I quickly found that people love these hammocks and it's a very satisfying experience selling to people who are so happy with their purchase.  The positive feedback and repeat customers I get every year makes my working life quite enjoyable.  Are Ireland and the UK a good destination for hammocking?  Ah, c'mon, have you seen the weather here? The very best place I have a hammock in my own home is in the glass-house. Lovely.

Hammock Exhibition event in Ireland

As a member of the Ticket To The Moon Tribe, how was your visit in Indonesia at the Headquarters?
The discovery of Ticket to the moon foundation? How do you see TTTM in 10 years from now? Which hammock is your favorite size and why? Any particular colors?
What I found so wonderful about my recent trip to Bali headquarters was how fantastically the company has grown up in the last few years. The new factory is amazing and I'm really glad to see so many new staff members working on new innovations, the company is truly booming and coming of age.  It's a very exciting time to be involved with TTTM.

Oliver visiting the Ticket to the moon foundation

The foundation in Sumba is excellent example of how the CEO Charly looks at the big picture. It's nice to think that some of the money my company spends with TTTM every year ends up doing good for the disadvantaged people of the village in Sumba.
I can see TTTM continuing to grow and to become recognized as a global brand. After all, they are the best hammocks in the world.
My favorite hammock is the one in the shade on a hot day with the sound of the sea and not much else except a cold beer. Colors aren't that important to me but I was never that keen on the one that looks like baby sick.

Thank you for your time and If anymore comments, feel free to share them to us!

I feel lucky to be part of the TTTM tribe and look forward to many more years in hammocks.
Thank you!

AN independent Australian-based developer, importer and distributor of leading products for those with a love of the outdoors has opened in Cairns, and already is expanding.
Adventure Friends, the first in Australia, has spawned a cafe, dubbed the Hammock Cafe, which opened a week ago.

Owner and managing director Federico Colalongo plans to roll out both brands across Australia.
Store manager Nick Lecke said the cafe was created at the rear of the Abbott St store so customers could “test drive” the hammocks while having a coffee or a cold drink.
“They love to try the hammock before they buy so we came up with the Hammock Cafe,’’ he said.

“People love the hammock; it’s supportive and comfortable. So why not try it while having a coffee?’’
Mr Lecke quickly put the Hammock Cafe concept into reality, cleaning up the rear yard, adding shade cloth, benches and other equipment.
He said Adventure Friends had been operating in a former Greek restaurant for about 11 weeks.
Mr Lecke said Mr Colalongo, who was currently in Germany buying more products, was a keen outdoors person and had invested about $300,000 in the venture.
“He’s Italian and came to Australia five to six years ago. He was holidaying in Alice Springs where he meet his wife Estelle and one year later they came to Cairns to live. They love it so much,’’ he said.
“He’s a hiker, a rock climber and an outdoor type of guy.’’

Mr Lecke said Adventure Friends was formed after Mr Colalongo obtained the distribution rights for the Ferrino brand. Other brands include Vargo Titanium, Fallkniven and Merrell. Products sold include tents, camping and sleeping gear, backpacks and bags, footwear, socks, hats and caps, knives and electronic gadgets.
He said the store and cafe were open seven days a week.
Mr Lecke said it was a hit with backpackers as well as residents, who liked to go camping and hiking. He said the store was staffed by 10 people who enjoyed the outdoors and knew their products.
“At Adventure Friends we walk the talk, and we’ve walked in some pretty exciting and dangerous places,’’ their website says.
“We use the gear we sell on a daily basis ourselves and sometimes our lives have depended on it. Between us we’ve climbed the mountains of Europe and the Himalaya region, and explored the deserts of Australia and the jungles of Papua New Guinea.
“If you buy us a beer one day we’ll tell you about our adventures running a crocodile farm and facing death by wild buffalo attack.’’

TTTM in the International Highline Meeting Monte Piana

Ultimate Hammock Session Chillout

Monte Piana - Dolomites, Italy

Very probably the most people and for sure the most hammocks

on a highline ever

How did it happen ?
By Igor Scotland - Ticket to the Moon Europe

The idea was born by Armin Holzer and the A team which is organizing the highline meeting (highlinemeeting.com) in 2013. Armin asked me if i wanna do this world record with them. So we did it the first time 2013, pretty spontaneously with 16 people in 14 hammocks and 2 chairs.

The spot is on the Monte Piana in Italy, ~2400m high the valley is ~500m deeper.

For 2014 we planned it more proper and made the set up more strong, we had 16 parachute hammocks and 22 people on the line. On the lines beside another 6 hammocks with 6 Person inside.

Monte Piana is among the Dolomites, offering a spectacular 360 degrees view out across the range and over the Lake of Misurina below. The views are astonishing, the heights are dizzying, and the thrill of hopping into your hammock for a quick chat with a nearby dangling human are second to none. There are – of course – harnesses, so it should be pretty easy to relax and just stroll across, right?

The set up is made from 2 layers of core 1 slackline webbing from Landcrusing-slacklines.de each with 4500 kg breaking strength loaded 50%each. So with reduction from line locker breaking strength will be about 7900 kg. And then there is a back up with 2 x 10 mm static ropes (BS 34kn, 22kn with knot) on separate Bolts. On each side we had 10x 12mm Bolts.
While all people where on the slackline the maximum force was measured with a scale 2348 kg.

It was a fun world record for the most people in hammocks (Ticket to the Moon) on a highline.see more pix here:

MoonChair

The MoonChair is made from the same highest quality parachute fabric as the hammocks (silk nylon), with a triple stitching, a reinforced nylon webbing for incomparable comfort, taped seams and stainless steel rings. Safe and secure, it has been tested and proved to support up to 120kg/165 lbs.

Very strong in spite of its light weight, this hanging chair is supported by a frame of 3 brushed aluminium poles connected by nautical ropes.

The side support ropes can be slid forward or backward, according to the chosen position (sitting or almost lying).

An adjustable footrest is also suspended from the top bar, paving the way for an even greater comfort.

Being hung immediately releases tension from the body: the simple fact that there is no pressure helps the muscles relax, and conveys an instant impression of weightlessness.

Outdoor or indoor, whether hung on a tree or to your ceiling, the MoonChair is YOUR ticket to the moon!
